The Berrio The Weathergirl 2009
By Christian Eedes, 6 January 2015
There’s an aphorism which holds that “The older you get, the more like yourself you become” and this applies all too aptly to The Weathergirl 2009 from Elim, a 2:1 blend of Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon, which was nominated for 5 Stars in the 2011 edition of Platter’s but ultimately not endorsed.
It’s a super-particular wine. On the nose, intense green bean, gun smoke and a certain sea breeze quality. The palate meanwhile is lean and strikingly fresh – I’m not sure the fact that it is closed under screwcap is helping as evolution seems unduly retarded. Hardscore stuff and while I recognise it will have appeal in some quarters, too extreme for me.
