The Vineyard Party new releases

Jolette Steyn of The Vineyard Party did not make any wine in 2021 – she specialises in Semillon and access to grapes remains a challenge while, of course, Covid-19 was still very much a factor affecting business.

In 2022, however, she sourced fruit from a Stellenbosch Kloof vineyard planted in 1999 or thereabouts and the second vintage of Daisy If You Do and the fourth vintage of I’m Your Huckleberry will be launched shortly. Tasting notes and ratings as follows:

Daisy If You Do Semillon 2022
Price: R275
Whole-bunch pressed, juice fermented and matured for 11 months in neutral oak. Top notes of flowers, herbs and dried grass before lime and peach while the palate has good clarity of fruit and bright acidity before a dry, slightly salty finish. Delicate and poised. Alc: 13.12%.

I’m Your Huckleberry Semillon 2022
Price: R275
50% destemmed and crushed, 50% given skin contact for 14 days. Maturation as above. Nectarine, tangerine, hay and spice on the nose. Slightly broader with more moderate acidity than Daisy – a characterful wine with a lightly grippy finish.
