Thelema new releases

In these straitened times, wines that are approachable but not overly simple and don’t break the bank are a boon. Thelema offers two wines that exactly fit the bill.

Thelema Mountain White 2023
Price: R100
90% Sauvignon Blanc and 10% Viognier. Peach and melon with hints of lime and fresh herbs in the background. Good palate weight and nicely coated acidity. Clean and fresh, the dash of Viognier cleverly offsets the potential greenness and angularity of the Sauvignon.

Thelema Mountain Red 2020
Price: R110
41% Shiraz, 36% Petit Verdot and 23% Grenache – grapes exclusively from own vineyards on Sutherland in Elgin and Petit Verdot. Matured for 18 months in old oak. Dark berries, a hint of fynbos and spice on the nose while the palate has good fruit depth and soft tannins. Round and juicy but not trade-off made to sweetness, this has heaps of appeal. Alc: 14%.
