Thelema Shiraz 2012
By Christian Eedes, 8 October 2015
Does an 89-point rating sell wine? It should in the case of the Shiraz 2012 from Stellenbosch property Thelema.
Winemaking practices involved no whole-bunch, careful extraction and relatively modest oaking – matured for 18 months in French oak barrels, 40% new.
It shows red and black fruit, pepper and spice plus a hint of liquorice. It’s medium to full bodied with moderate acidity and pleasantly “crunchy” tannins. A comfort wine, if you will. Liquorcity Claremont price: R132.95 a bottle.
#WinemagRating: 89/100.
