Thorne & Daughters Copper Pot Chardonnay 2021

By , 9 August 2022

Copper Pot Pinot Noir has been an effort on the part of John Seccombe of Thorne & Daughters to offer good everyday drinking at a price well below category average – the 2021 vintage sells for R165 a bottle.

I’ve always found the Pinot Noir a little too easy but it’s now joined by a Chardonnay at the same price that’s pretty damn tasty. Grapes from Cape South Coast vineyards, the wine is fermented and matured for nine months in older oak. The nose shows a little struck-match reduction before citrus, peach, oatmeal and roast almond while the palate has good weight and plenty of flavour. It’s well balanced with a nice tang and a properly savoury finish.

CE’s rating: 91/100.
