Tokara MCC Blanc de Blanc 2011
By Christian Eedes, 9 October 2017
The maiden vintage Tokara Méthode Cap Classique Blanc de Blanc 2011 is superb. From Chardonnay grown on this producer’s Elgin property, the wine spent five years on the lees.
The nose shows a subtle aldehydic character as well as a hint of reduction, these two qualities playing off against each other to good effect while there is also citrus and apple also in evidence. The palate is pristine with wonderfully pure and concentrated fruit, fresh acidity, the mousse soft and pleasantly lazy. The depth of flavour is extraordinary and this is surely one of the most accomplished local bubblies to be had. Price: R650 a bottle.
