Tokara Reserve Collection Cabernet Sauvignon 2019

By , 24 October 2022

While the 2017 vintage of Tokara Reserve Collection (which was Winemag.co.za’s Red Wine of The Year in 2020 with a rating of 95) had an alcohol of 14.86%, the 2019 comes in at just 14% and comes across as rather understated.

Including 10% Petit Verdot, the wine was matured for 22 months in French oak, 48% new. The nose shows red and black berries, hints of tea leaf and fresh herbs plus vanilla and pencil shavings. The palate, meanwhile, is medium bodied with juicy fruit, bright acidity and super-fine tannins. It’s elegant and already quite accessible. Price: R370 a bottle.

CE’s rating: 90/100.
