Uva Mira Sing-a-Wing Sauvignon Blanc 2017
By Christian Eedes, 14 February 2018
Uva Mira in Stellenbosch has established itself as a Chardonnay powerhouse in recent times – the top-of-the-range 2016 and The Mira 2016 rated 93 and 92 respectively in last year’s Prescient Chardonnay Report – but what of its Sauvignon Blanc? The 2017s have just been released and they’re not far behind. Tasting notes and ratings as follows:
Uva Mira The Mira Sauvignon Blanc 2017
Price: R150
From vineyards 400 to 470 metres above sea level. Alc: 13.44%. A very aromatic nose with a herbal top note before fig and white peach through granadilla and pineapple. A sleek palate with good fruit concentration and a smooth texture – should have broad appeal.
Editor’s rating: 90/100.
Uva Mira Sing-a-Wing Sauvignon Blanc 2017
Price: R250
From vineyards 470 metres above sea level. Alc: 12.87%. A subtle nose with a pretty fynbos-like perfume as well as lime, black currant, peach and green apple. The palate is pleasantly lean and fresh with a pithy finish. Altogether more restrained than its stablemate above.
Editor’s rating: 91/100.
