The Mira Cabernet Sauvignon 2017 from high-lying Helderberg property Uva Mira presents as extraordinarily youthful, testament once again to what an extraordinary vintage this was.
Matured for 18 months in French oak, of which 40% was new, the nose shows cherry and cassis, some leafiness as well as some smoky reduction while the palate is clean and fresh. Lovely pure fruit and, as mentioned, still very tight – the lack of detail and nuance is even a bit curious although this may still come with time (alcohol: 13.5%). Price: R450 a bottle.
