The Monro Merlot 2020 from Stellenbosch property Villiera is luxuriously styled. Matured for 18 months in French oak, of which 65% was new, the nose shows black berries, fresh herbs, cigar box, vanilla and oak spice. The palate is plush and smooth textured – plenty of fruit upfront, fresh acidity and fine tannins. At R259 a bottle, it’s going to make a lot of people very happy.
