Vondeling Babiana 2018

By , 31 July 2020

Babiana, from Voor Paardeberg property Vondeling and named after Babiana Noctiflora, which is a rare species of fynbos found only on that mountain, is one of the more established Cape White Blends, the first vintage having been 2005.

The 2018 consists of 58% Chenin Blanc, 21% Viognier, 12% Grenache Blanc and 9% Roussanne. The nose shows citrus, peach plus some earthiness and leesy character. The palate is rich and broad, weighty but not too much so and has plenty of flavour. It has a nice tang to it and comes across as well balanced, which is to say the component parts form a pleasing whole and the finish is long and savoury. Price: R230 a bottle.

CE’s rating: 93/100.
