Wightman, Gouws & Clarke Dry Red 2017
By Christian Eedes, 4 October 2017
The variety from which the Wightman, Gouws & Clarke Dry Red is made might get played down in terms of weighting on the label but the fact that it is Pinotage should deter no-one. A JV between Andrew Wightman of Môrelig in the Swartland, Jurgen Gouws of Intellego and David and Jeannette Clarke of distribution company Ex Animo, the current-release 2017 is a little beauty. The nose shows abundant fragrance with notes of flowers and fynbos plus red currant and cherries while the palate is pure and fresh – great fruit definition before a long and salty finish. Approximate retail price: R140 a bottle.
