Cape Point Vineyards Sauvignon Blanc Reserve 2009

Power packed.
Power packed.

The opening of some wines is more fraught than others – perhaps I hoped for too much from our bottle of Cape Point Vineyards Sauvignon Blanc Reserve 2009 last night but it turned out to be vaguely disappointing.

10% barrel fermented and nine months on the lees, alcohol by volume 14%, this was no shrinking violet. Green asparagus on the nose and palate – not overt but nevertheless defining. Also some white pepper – one of the nicer manifestations of pyrazine. Thick textured but balanced by great acidity – really perky. Undoubtedly a serious proposition but somehow difficult to enjoy.

Score: 87/100.
