Van Loveren Sauvignon Blanc 2015

Green for go.

Green for go.

The crew at Van Loveren in Robertson pride themselves on being the first to get a wine of any particular year to market and they seem to have done it again. Grapes for its Sauvignon Blanc 2015 were harvested between 15 and 22 January and a media release announcing the release of the wine was issued on 19 February.

It shows a pronounced pear character but also hints of lime and granadilla plus a vague herbal quality. Uncomplicated, fruity and fresh – you’d have to be a real grump not to enjoy a glass or two. Price: R43 a bottle.

Score: 83/100.

I think you’ll find Lourensford were first with a 2015 on the market this year; their First Fruit Pinot Noir Rose, released on 14th February.

What next? A wine from grapes picked in December and released on New Year’s Day?

Maybe next year. They can give it a Christmas theme.
