Ever come across something from Teubes Family Wines? Browsing the shelves of Liquor City Claremont, I came across the Sauvignon Blanc 2014 (price: R126.45 a bottle), the wine certified Wine of Origin Olifants River and according to the little map on the back label of, the cellar situated near the West Coast town of Vredendal, some 295km north of Cape Town.

It’s a smart effort with plenty of properly ripe fruit. White peach through granadilla and even pineapple. Good palate weight but not without freshness and a nicely pithy finish. According to Platter’s, the Teubes family have only been bottling under their own label since 2011 but if this is anything to go by, they’re worth keeping an eye on.

Score: 89/100.
