By Christian Eedes, 31 October 2017
Distell, SA’s largest producer-wholesaler, has appointed Niël Groenewald as head winemaker, replacing Razvan Macici who departed suddenly in March this year.
Groenewald (42) holds an MBA from UCT and a BSc Hons from Stellenbosch University. He leaves DGB-owned Bellingham after 14 vintages as chief winemaker. In recent years, he was also responsible for the marketing of the brand.
