When Ivy du Toit of  Jason’s Hill Private Cellar near Rawsonville won Diners Club Young Winemaker of the Year in 2003 for her Sauvignon Blanc 2003, incredulity was expressed in some quarters that she’d have access to grapes of sufficient quality to make a wine worthy of the title.

Whatever did or didn’t go down at the time, Du Toit retains her place on the Diners Club roll of honour and was present at the 2010 awards ceremony, which was simultaneously the 10th anniversary of the Young Winemaker of the Year Award and the 30th anniversary of the Winemaker of the Year Award.

Du Toit, as cheerful and chatty as they come, is currently revelling in her Wooded White 2010 being rated 4 Stars in Wine magazine. A blend of Chardonnay, Nouvelle and Sauvignon Blanc, it costs R35 a bottle from the tasting room.
