Wines to be reviewed for the 2012 edition of Plattter’s began arriving towards the end of June, the deadline for final copy being 5 August, the tasting of wines nominated for 5 Stars on 18 August and the launch of the book typically in mid-November. Always an extraordinary feat of logistics.
I taste some 250 wines this year and so if I want to be done by the end of July, then I need to work through approximately eight wines a day. Skip one day, and it’s a line-up of 16 the next, skip two days, and suddenly it’s 24…
