Wine magazine’s Best Value Wine Show at the The Vineyard Hotel & Spa.

Yesterday the Wine magazine Best Value Wine Show at the The Vineyard Hotel & Spa in Newlands, Cape Town. Fifteen wineries present, those invited to exhibit required to have had at least one wine rated 20 out of 20 according the good value system as applied in the 2011 Ultra Liquors Best Value Wine Guide (given away free with the Novmeber issue of the magazine).

Tickets were R40 a head, which included a tasting glass, the latest issue of the magazine and a copy of the 2011 Best Value Wine Guide. The tasting took place under relaxed circumstances around the pool of the hotel and Splash Café offer snacks and light lunches throughout the course of the day. Worse ways to spend an hour or two on a Saturday morning.

Though Wine magazine’s Best Value competition has been running for 10 years, this is the first time a show has arisen out of it. Wines had to come in at R60 a bottle or under as well as achieve a rating of at least 2½ Stars in order to appear the 2011 guide, and you suspect the show has got legs.
