Andreas Shiraz 2020

By , 17 May 2024

The Wellington Wine Route has rebranded itself as Go Wellington and has launched a new website accordingly. One winery in the district that deserves attention in Andreas where Shaun Meyeridricks, previously assistant winemaker at Boekenhoutskloof, makes smart Shiraz.

The 2020, the production of which involved 30% whole-bunch fermentation, is most appealing. Red and black berries, fresh kitchen herbs, wilder fynbos note and pepper on the nose while the palate is robust (alcohol is 14.5%) but still delivers refreshment – clean fruit, bright acidity and crunchy tannins. Price: R271 a bottle.

CE’s rating: 92/100.
