Andreas Syrah 2018

By , 6 December 2021

Shaun Meyeridricks joined Wellington property Andreas in December 2017 having previously been assistant winemaker at Boekenhoutskloof and he obviously learnt a thing or two about how to handle Syrah during his time at the acclaimed Franschhoek cellar.

The Andreas 2018, matured for some 18 months in French oak of which 20% was new, shows red and black berries, olive, leather, pepper and spice on the nose while the palate has sumptuous fruit and very well managed tannins. It’s full-bodied but not short of freshness and that’s always a neat trick to pull off. Price: R245 a bottle.

CE’s rating: 91/100.
