Andreas Syrah 2021

By , 3 October 2024

While I was inclined to describe the 2020 vintage of Syrah from Andreas in Wellingtons’s Bovlei as “robust”, the newly releases 2021 seems a bit slighter.

Winemaking involving some 35 – 45% whole-bunch fermentation in tank before maturation lasting 18 months in 300- and 500-litre barrels, it has broad appeal without being facile.

Red and black berries, fynbos, olive, a hint of vanilla, pepper and other spice while the palate is medium bodied and well balanced – clean fruit, fresh acidity and fine tannins, the finish nicely dry. Alc: 14%.

CE’s rating: 91/100.
