Boschkloof Epilogue Syrah 2015

Last word.

The 2015 vintage of Epilogue Syrah from Boschkloof in Stellenbosch seems altogether more sleek and powerful than the stand-out 2014. The nose is rather heady with notes of red and black fruit, a definite herbal quality, almost minty in its intensity, floral perfume, liquorice and spice. The palate, meanwhile, is dense and deep with plenty of succulent fruit, fresh acidity and relatively soft tannins. Wine Cellar price: R590 a bottle.

Editor’s rating: 94/100.

I drank one of these a few nights ago and it was utterly spectacular. Some nice tertiary character, soft tannins but still extremely smart. It seemed to me to be at its peak. That intense, almost minty note was very much evident. Honestly haven’t enjoyed any Syrah as much as this bottle in many, many years.
