Cape of Good Hope Van Lill & Visser Chenin Blanc 2019

By , 18 February 2021

The Cape of Good Hope Van Lill & Visser Chenin Blanc is the Skurfberg offering from Anthonij Rupert Wyne, both Basie van Lill of Arbeidsend and Jozua Visser of Oudam supplying grapes.

The 2019 is only lightly wooded: 22% of the wine fermented and matured in mainly older 300-litre French oak barrels and the balance in stainless steel tanks. On the nose, a hint of reduction before citrus and white peach plus a little floral perfume in the background while the palate is marked by a great core of fruit matched by lively acidity, the finish long and gently savoury. Evidence, once again, of a special site. Price: R355 a bottle.

CE’s rating: 94/100.
