Cederberg Five Generations Chenin Blanc 2011

By , 23 July 2015

A keeper.

A keeper.

The Five Generations Chenin Blanc from Cederberg Private Cellar is nothing if not carefully crafted. Barrel fermented and matured for 11 months in 300-litre French oak barrels, a third each first-, second- and third-fill, the final wine including a 6% unwooded portion from the 2012 and 14% Viognier.

On the nose, lemon and peach, honeysuckle, some leesy complexity, a distinctive note of dried herbs and a touch of spice. The palate shows good fruit concentration and vibrant acidity – luscious but with plenty of drive and properly dry on the finish. “Statuesque” is the word that comes to mind.

Score: 93/100.
