Cloudskraal Nieu Sauvignon Blanc 2023

By , 24 November 2023

Cloudskraal Nieu Sauvignon Blanc 2023, which won bronze and was voted People’s Choice at this year’s Label Design Awards sponsored by Rotolabel, has remarkable origins. Grapes come from Japie Nel’s farm outside Nieuwoudtville, some 350km north of Cape Town where the Hantam Karoo and the Knersvlakte intersect, the vineyards planted some 20 years ago at an altitude of 820m above sea level.

Andries Blake and team at Klawer Cellars are responsible for the winemaking and they’ve created something rather striking. The nose shows lime, white peach and fynbos while the palate is round and luscious, this counterbalanced by incisive acidity, the finish nicely dry. Price: R130 a bottle.

CE’s rating: 93/100.
