Die Hart Cabernet Sauvignon 2022

By , 11 July 2024

Die Hart is a “tribute to old-school Cabernet Sauvignon” conceived by Jeannette and David Clarke of wine distribution company Ex Animo and supplied by Bot River cellar Luddite. “You normally have to pay a lot for great Cab but our intention is offer something pretty tasty at an affordable price,” says David.

Grapes were sourced from a farm on the Van der Stel pass between Bot River and Villiersdorp as well as Gabriëlskloof, maturation lasting 24 months in neutral oak. Aromatics are heady with notes of cassis, violets and lavender plus some leafiness and earth. The palate is deep and rich (alc: 13.88%) with bright acidity and chewy tannins. There’s plenty of fruit power on offer but equally the finish is bone-dry, preventing the wine from being too luscious. Price: R195 a bottle.

CE’s rating: 92/100.
