Grangehurst 350 Celebration Vintage Pinotage 2009
By Christian Eedes, 29 September 2017
According to Jan van Riebeek’s diary, wine was first made in the Cape on 2 February 1659. In 2009, Stellenbosch property Grangehurst harvested its Pinotage on 2 and 3 February and subsequently bottled a special cuvée to celebrate 350 years of wine in the Cape.
Including 12% Cabernet Sauvignon, barrel maturation took 35 months. The nose shows red cherry, banana, vanilla, cinnamon and other spice. The palate is medium bodied with generous fruit, fresh acidity and gently savoury finish. It’s very much holding together, that dash of Cab doing it no harm at all. Price: R390 a bottle.
