Harry Hartman Wine Co., the collaboration between Cape Town businessman and wine enthusiast Marcel Hartman and graphic designer Sean “Harry” Harrison, have some smart new releases, tasting notes and ratings as follows:
Harry Hartman Summer Sauvignon Blanc 2020
Price: R150
W.O. Cape South Coast. Spontaneous fermentation. Exotic aromatics with top notes of floral perfume and buchu before peach, granadilla, pineapple. Rich and round with tangy acidity and a savoury finish.
CE’s rating: 90/100.
Harry Hartman Church Swartland Chenin Blanc 2020
Price: R295
Matured for 11 months in older oak. Pear, peach, hay plus quite noticeable vanilla and spice on the nose. The palate is rich with a creamy texture but there’s also driving acidity making for a rather striking wine.
CE’s rating: 92/100.
Harry Hartman Church Stellenbosch Chenin Blanc 2020
Price: R295
Maturation as above. Citrus, white peach, dried herbs and a hint of vanilla on the nose. The palate is pure and fresh – tightly wound and seamless. Good depth of flavour, the finish long and dry.
CE’s rating: 93/100.
Harry Hartman Mosi 2019
Price: R550
Sommelier-at-large Joseph Dhafana lends his endorsement. 64% Cabernet Sauvignon, 21% Petit Verdot, 8% Merlot and 7% Cabernet Franc. Matured for 22 months in French oak, 60% new. Extremely perfumed on the nose with notes of musk, violets, a subtle note of dried herbs, red and black berries plus some vanilla and earth. The palate is full but balanced – good depth of fruit, fresh acidity and smooth tannins. Luxuriously styled.
CE’s rating: 93/100.
