Does farming organically make for more than warm and fuzzy feelings? Something to contemplate when drinking the wines from Joostenberg in Paarl. Tasting notes and ratings for the new releases as follows:
Joostenberg Chenin Blanc 2021
Age of vines vary from four to 39 years. Pear, peach and green apple plus arresting herbal notes including basil and mint. Light-bodied with crisp acidity and a pithy finish. Tank-fermented and matured, this is super-refreshing.
CE’s rating: 89/100.
Joostenberg Family Blend 2020
85% Syrah, 12% Mourvèdre and 3% Touriga Nacional. Matured for nine months in a combination of tank and old oak. Red and black berries, earth, spice and white pepper on the nose while the palate has good depth and detail. Characterful without being overbearing.
CE’s rating: 92/100.
