The resurgence of Stellenbosch property Kaapzicht continues with two new releases from bush vines and featuring hands-off winemaking, one a Chenin Blanc and the other a Cinsaut. Tasting notes and scores as follows:
Kaapzicht Kliprug Bush Vine Chenin Blanc 2015
Price: R120
From a 1982 vineyard. An enticing nose showing honeysuckle before pear, citrus (tangerine, naartjie) and stone fruit. The palate shows lovely purity and freshness – it’s intense but not weighty while the finish is long and ever so slightly bitter lending interest to the drinking experience. What makes this wine stand out is its sheer artlessness.
#WinemagRating: 92/100.
Kaapzicht Skuinsberg Bush Vine Cinsaut 2015
Wine Cellar price: R125
From a 1991 vineyard. 20% whole-bunch fermentation. Plums plus red and black cherry. Relatively full (14% abv) and smooth textured. Very pleasant but undemanding – Kaapzicht obviously not wanting to miss out on the fashionability of the variety how much to expect from such wines?
#WinemagRating: 88/100.

Exciting times! Mooi Danie! Glad Kliprug is finally in it’s own bottle. Great vineyard.
