Kaapzicht The 1947 Chenin Blanc 2015
By Christian Eedes, 27 June 2016
The soon-to-be-released 2015 vintage of The 1947 Chenin Blanc from Kaapzicht is again superlative. The nose is extraordinarily complex: Pear, citrus, white peach, even a little pineapple, flowers, dried herbs, spice and a touch of vanilla. The palate, meanwhile, possesses tremendous presence, its breadth and depth something to marvel at. A great old vineyard vinified with aplomb – production amounting to just 900 bottles, a selection made from French and Hungarian oak barrels of various sizes, some 30% new. Just three vintages in, this is now firmly established as one of South Africa’s finest examples.
