Kanonkop Cabernet Sauvignon 2014
By Christian Eedes, 19 April 2019
The Cabernet Sauvignon from Kanonkop in Stellenbosch has a reputation for being immensely age-worthy and you again expect that the 2014 (Wine Cellar price: R400 a bottle) will go for jonks.
From vines that are 25 years old on average, maturation lasted 24 months in French oak, 50% new. The nose shows dark fruit, mint, graphite, molasses and a slight rubber-like note. The palate is sweet, rich and smooth textured and yet somehow not short of vibrancy. It’s intensely flavoured and basically gives the impression of being indestructible. Alcohol: 14.2%.
Editor’s rating: 91/100.
