Klein Constantia Vin de Constance 2018
By Christian Eedes, 27 October 2021
Klein Constantia winemaker Matt Day describes the newly released 2018 vintage of Vin de Constance as a little lighter than the preceding 2017 vintage and hence closer to the style that he ultimately desires for the wine but there’s not much to separate them in terms of analysis – 2018 is marginally lower in alcohol but in fact has a fractionally higher residual sugar and lower total acidity.
In any event, it’s yet again an exquisite wine – top notes of potpourri, herbs and spice before peach and citrus on the nose while the palate is indeed light and energetic while simultaneously being intensely flavoured, the finish long and dry. Currently youthful and tightly wound, this is no doubt worthy of some age. Price: R1 250 per 500ml bottle.
CE’s rating: 97/100.
