Landskroon Paul de Villiers Reserve 2014

By , 23 November 2015

Occasionally we get asked why we don’t feature more “value” wines (for which read “inexpensive” or “sub-R100” wines) and the short answer is that we simply don’t come across anything characterful and appealing at that sort of price too often.
One winery which has long turned unflashy but honest and affordable wines is Landskroon in Paarl, and this is again borne out by the two current releases below:

Landskroon Paul Hugo White 2015
Price: R38
80% Viognier, 20% Chenin Blanc. Very primary with notes of pear, white peach and just a hint of floral perfume. Light-bodied, pure and fresh with a pleasantly dry finish.

#WinemagRating: 85/100.

Landskroon Paul de Villiers Reserve 2014

Good result.

Landskroon Paul de Villiers Reserve 2014
Price: R91
52% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Cabernet Franc and 18% Merlot. Matured for 19 months in French oak, 100% new. Red and black fruit plus vanilla and oak spice. Medium bodied and well balanced – good fruit expression, soft but sufficient acidity, pleasantly smooth textured. Really well assembled.

#WinemagRating: 88/100.
