Landskroon The Heritage Cinsaut 2022
By Christian Eedes, 2 May 2024
Paarl property Landskroon has been farmed by the De Villiers family since 1874, the first wine to appear under own label a Cinsaut from the 1974 vintage. To commemorate the 50th anniversary of this, the farm recently released the Heritage Cinsaut 2022 selling for R215 a bottle.
Grapes from a 19-year-old untrellised vineyard, the wine was matured for 12 months in second- and third-fill barrels. The nose shows notes of cherries, plums, floral perfume and fynbos while the palate is not insubstantial at 14% alcohol but remains well balanced with pure fruit, bright acidity and soft tannins, the finish gently savoury.
CE’s rating: 91/100.
