Leeuwenkuil Heritage Syrah 2015

Among  Leeuwenkuil’s 1 250ha of vineyard is a 16-year-old block of Syrah on the southern slopes of Riebeek Mountain adjacent to where Boekenhoutskloof and Mullineux among others have important holdings. The wine that Leeuwenkuil makes from here is bottled under its top-of-the-range Heritage label and while the 2014 was stellar, the recently released 2015 seems to lack quite the same X-factor

Alc: 12.89%. Matured for 12 months in old oak. Red and black fruit, olive, lavender, fynbos and white pepper. Surprisingly dense fruit given its relatively low alcohol, fresh acidity and crunchy tannins, the finish having a salty quality to it. Very much new wave in style but perhaps could be both more intricate and punchy.
