Lomond SSV 2014
By Christian Eedes, 26 September 2016
The SSV 2014 from Lomond near Gansbaai is a blend of 80% Sauvignon Blanc, 16% Semillon and 4% Viognier, the latter two components fermented and matured for three months in third-fill barrels.
The addition of the Viognier, traditionally associated with the Rhône, to what would otherwise be a Bordeaux-style white blend must make life difficult for the marketing team but the wine itself is terrific.
On the nose, a note of fynbos before peach and apple. The palate is rich and full yet also possesses a great line of acidity making for a very well balanced drop. Price: R73 a bottle.
#WinemagRating: 92/100.
