Maanschijn Easy, Tiger Grenache Gris 2016

Cat on a hot tin roof.

Maanschijn is the label belonging to youngsters Paul Hoogwerf and Doug Mylrea who make wine out a barn between Stanford and Hermanus (see Tim James’s write-up here).

The Grenache Gris features some skin contact and appears pale amber in the glass. On the nose, apple and peach plus some hard-to-describe savoury character. The palate is light bodied yet intensely flavoured, the finish nicely pithy. Drinks very well indeed. Approximate retail price: R240 a bottle.

Editor’s rating: 90/100.
