Middelvlei Cabernet Sauvignon 1989

Old but not cold.

Old but not cold.

From the Nederburg Auction preview tasting: An unexpected gem in yesterday’s line-up was the Cabernet Sauvignon 1989 from Stellenbosch property Middelvlei.

Good colour, the core still black and the rim red. Cassis, violets and forest floor on the nose. Lean but not too lean on the palate with bright acidity and a pleasantly austere finish. Not a profound wine but still very much intact and wonderfully approachable.

Only one six-bottle case and the reserve price per case is R1 200.

Score: 90/100.
