The serious buyers look business-minded while everybody else is obviously goofing off work as this year’s Nederburg Auction kicks off in Paarl. From 09h00 to 11h00, an informal tasting up for sale and on a whim, I chose to focus on sweet wines.
How much will the Nederburg Edelkeur 1982 go for? Dark brown with a green rim, the nose shows marmalade, dried apricot, caramel, spice and a little mushroom. Super-intense with bright acidity with a savoury finish. Only two six-bottle cases available, reserve price R1 500 per case. Worth a flutter, I’d say.
