Paul Cluver Noble Late Harvest 2017

Once in a while.

Paul Cluver Wines in Elgin has released its first Noble Late Harvest in three years. From Riesling, there were two pickings involved, the first on 20 March and the second on 13 April, grapes coming in at 35⁰ Brix.

On the nose, citrus and green apple, herbs and a little spice, mushroom and some petrol-like character. The palate shows good fruit concentration and snappy acidity – it’s not without weight and texture but this is a relatively lean and demanding example of a botrytised wine. Price: R250 per 375ml bottle.

Editor’s rating: 91/100.
