Pieter Ferreira Rosé 2016

By , 20 March 2023

Pinot Noir-based Cap Classique often tends to be somewhat rudimentary – ordinary grapes picked early – but that is not the case with the Rosé 2016 from Pieter Ferreira. 100% Pinot Noir, fruit was sourced from Darling and Durbanville, while time on lees lasted 72 months (alc: 11.9%).

The nose shows the best of the variety including cherry, raspberry, strawberry, mushroom and fleeting notes of spice. The palate, meanwhile, has weight without sacrificing balance or verve – dense fruit, zingy acidity and a creamy mousse. Layers of flavour, the finish gently savoury. Price: R425 a bottle.

CE’s rating: 93/100.
