Reyneke Syrah 2015

While the accolades for recent vintages of the Syrah from biodynamic-certified Stellenbosch producer Reyneke have rolled in, I felt some were a little too “wild”. I’m glad to say that I have no such misgivings about the 2015 vintage.
Spontaneous fermentation, incorporating 30% whole bunch, occurred in concrete egg while maturation lasting 16 months took place in older casks and 2500-litre foudres. The nose is wonderfully expressive with notes of red fruit, flowers and scrub, white pepper and spice plus a hint of reduction. The palate is light bodied with fresh acidity and fine tannins, the finish savoury but not disconcertingly so… Wine Cellar price: R160 a bottle.
Editor’s rating: 93/100.

I think the 2014 was better. the 2015 is lighter.

Agreed. Best one I’ve tasted from them.
