Grapes grown by Jozua Joubert of Polkadraai farm Karibib, winemaking by Reenen Borman of Boschkloof, Sons of Sugarland Syrah has quickly become established as one of South Africa’s finest examples of the variety. The 2020, as always, is 100% whole-bunch fermented and matured in concrete and comes across as particularly light and energetic – red berries plus subtle notes of rose, fresh herbs, and white pepper on the nose while the palate displays pure fruit, bright acidity, and powdery tannins. Price: R425 a bottle.
