Swerwer Red 2015
By Christian Eedes, 11 July 2016
Jasper Wickens, who is part of the team at Swartland cellar AA Badenhorst Family Wines, makes his own wines under the Swerwer label and these are well worth checking out. Tasting notes and ratings for the current releases as follows:
Swerwer Chenin Blanc 2015
Wine Cellar price: R175
The nose shows the vaguest hint of flowers before white peach and yellow earth. The palate has a nice vinosity about it – super-concentrated fruit, moderate acidity and a pithy, almost bitter finish.
#WinemagRating: 92/100.
Swerwer Red 2015
Wine Cellar price: R190
A blend of Cinsaut, Grenache and Syrah, this is the most accomplished vintage yet. An enticing nose of red cherry, cranberry, fresh herbs, scrub, purple flowers, pepper and spice. The palate, meanwhile, shows pure fruit, bright acidity and crunchy tannins. This is a lithe and athletic wine – not too slight with wonderful composure and length.
#WinemagRating: 93/100.
