Trillennium Chenin Blanc 2023
By Christian Eedes, 10 October 2024
Are we destined to see more retailers launching private wine brands? It’s often argued that there are too many links in the sales chain and retailers collaborating directly with producers effectively cuts out the distributor.
Makro have launched a Chenin Blanc made by Ken Forrester Wines under its newly launched Trillennium label, selling price R199 a bottle. Matured in a combination of tank and barrel, it’s styled to have broad appeal. Yellow apple, stone fruit, pineapple, spice and some yeasty complexity on the nose while the palate is rich and comforting – good depth of fruit, creamy texture, tangy acidity and a gently savoury finish. Alcohol is 13.5% while a residual sugar of 4.96g/l provides plushness. Makro pronounces that it will be expanding the Trillenium brand, more exclusive wines produced in partnership with leading winemakers set to come market.
CE’s rating: 91/100.
