Albert van Niekerk, former copywriter turned winemaker, is currently assistant to Peter-Allan Finlayson of Crystallum Wines, working out of the Gabriëlskloof cellar in Bot River. Available under his own label is Rebellie 2019, made from Grenache sourced from nearby Anysbos (price: R210 a bottle)

Vinification involved 40% whole-bunch fermentation before 10 months of maturation in old oak. The nose shows red currant, raspberry, rose, herbs, and white pepper while the palate is light and subtle – pure fruit, bright acidity, and crunchy tannins. Alcohol: 13%.

CE’s rating: 92/100.

Dis absoluut GREAT. Ek is saam met jou moeder bitterlik trots op jou.

    Baie baie geluk Albert!

Hierdie is net die begin van nog vele wonderlike toekennings in die wynbedryf. “Mark my words!”
