Yin and yang.

Yin and yang.

Wine Cellar, local merchants and cellarers of fine wine, recently launched a Chenin Blanc and a Syrah under its own label. Both W.O. Swartland, they are made by Ryan Mostert of new winery Terra Cura.

Wine Cellar Chenin Blanc 2014
Price: R139
An enticing nose of peach, apricot and even a little pineapple plus spice and dried herbs. Good fruit expression, tangy acidity and a gently savoury finish. Lean but not too lean – a little phenolic grip adds interest.

Score: 90/100.

Wine Cellar Syrah 2014
Price: R139

Red and black fruit plus some fragrant, scrub-like notes. Good fruit concentration, fresh acidity and just the right amount of tannic grip. No oak derived aromas or flavours to speak of. A charming wine.

Score: 90/100.
