President Cyril Ramaphosa last night announced that South Africa would be moving to Coronavirus alert level 2 from midnight on Monday, 17 August with the alcohol ban lifted. Off-consumption sales will be allowed Monday to Thursday between 09h00 and 17h00 and alcohol may be served in all licensed restaurants – the state of disaster has however been extended to 15 September and the 22h00 to 04h00 curfew remains in place.

So, presumably from Tuesday we can enjoy wine at restaurants and bars seven days a week, even though we can only buy from wine farms and CBD wine shops Monday to Thursday?! Can wine farms offer wine tastings over the weekend, I wonder…

Midnight Monday is actually Sunday night hence you should start enjoying your drink today.

Alert level 2 will be in place from 00h01 on 18 August 2020 – as published on http://www.gov.za on 17 August 2020. From Friday to Sunday, wine farms can offer wine tastings and sell wine at their restaurants, but can’t sell wine for consumption off their premises on these days, i.e. only Monday to Thursday as per retailers in the towns and cities. Hmph!
